The Risk Management Consultant will be responsible for developing and managing an active pipeline through seeking out prospects, conducting in depth needs analysis/risk assessments, developing ideas for meeting client needs, presenting information on the organization’s capabilities, strategically cross-selling products aligned with clients’ needs and introducing technical specialists, as required, to win and retain the business. This is an outside sales position and, as such, requires a majority of the Producer’s time to be spent outside the office selling. Success in this role is based on the incumbent’s ability to win/retain new business and meet/exceed established sales goal targets related to revenue growth, mix of business and penetration into industry specific targets.
Essential Functions
- Develop new business to achieve sales goals, adhering to our Ideal Client Profile
- Provide consultative advice and advocacy in key areas of expertise for clients/colleagues
- Adhere to overall strategies, and develop business plan for reaching quota
- Exercise proficiency in assessing viability of new business opportunities
- Investigate/research prospective clients exposure risk, current broker relationship, services received through their current broker, coverage sufficiency and any value-added services we may be able to provide
- Produce prospect/business production reports on revenue and pipeline as needed
- Attend industry specific seminars, workshops, and other networking events to develop contacts, relationships, and professional associations that lead to market opportunities
- Achieve renewal business goals through management of the renewal process and ongoing client service
- Negotiate price and key coverage features with underwriter on behalf of the client
- Create, educate, and present renewal proposal to client, including coverage offers for exposures not currently insured
- Serve as the point of contact between the underwriter and the client, coordinating underwriter meetings to ensure all requirements are fulfilled and concerns addressed.
- Develop strong relationships with client senior management and insurance carriers
- Assist with external educational materials, for clients and centers of influence.
- Manage/collect receivables in conjunction with Client Associate/Manager.
- Coordinate activities and service deliverables for clients.
- Review and deliver summary, proposals and policies.
- Design individual prospect sales strategies and develop unique prospect programs
- Conduct thorough needs analysis/risk assessment to uncover prospects/client’s unique coverage needs
- Identify and close potential cross-sell opportunities
- Maintain consistent / high quality touch points by phone and face to face with clients
- Support Client Management team in identifying and closing rounding opportunities
- Identify prospects for business from existing and prospective clients
- Develop new relationships with individuals responsible for insurance and risk management decisions
- Obtain referral leads from existing clients

Required/Preferred Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree
- 10+ years of risk management/employee benefits/insurance brokerage experience
- Comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of insurance market place
- California Department of Insurance Licensure (must be obtained within 3 months of hire)
- Professional designations: CPCU, ARM, and/or CIC preferred
- Knowledge of Salesforce, EPIC, TechCanary or ability to learn quickly
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional field and office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Extended work hours required on occasion due to networking and industry functions that begin well before the workday and may extend well into the evening.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Travel
15% – 30% travel may be required. Trips ranging from one day to one week, both in and out of state. Incumbent must have a valid driver’s license with dependable transportation.
